Kristina Hammarström is enjoying a flourishing international career. She frequently appears at opera houses such as Teatro alla Scala Milan, Staatsoper Wien, Theater and der Wien, Opéra National Paris, Théâtre des Champs Elysées Paris, Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg, Théâtre de La Monnaie Brussels, Netherlands Opera Amsterdam, Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Théâtre de Caen, Opéra de Nice, Opéra National de Nancy, Opéra de Lausanne, Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg, Ópera Bilbao, Chicago Opera, Royal Swedish Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Innsbrucker Festwochen and Drottningholm Festival Stockholm.

 

Her opera roles include Charlotte in Werther, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Penelope and Minerva in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Diana in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Marguerite in Berlioz’ La Damnation de Faust. Mozart roles include Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Cecilio in Lucio Silla, the title role in Ascanio in Alba, Idamante in Idomeneo, Farnace in Mitridate, re di Ponto, and roles in operas and staged oratorios by Handel include Irene in Tamerlano, Nerone in Agrippina, the title role and Cornelia in Giulio Cesare, the title role in Oreste, Bradamante in Alcina, Daniel in Belshazzar, Storgé in Jephtha, Cleofe in La Resurrezione and Teseo in Arianna in Creta.

 

She regularly works with conductors such as Marin Alsop, Giancarlo Andretta, Giovanni Antonini, Eduardo López Banzo, Herbert Blomstedt, Frans Brüggen, William Christie, Jesús López Cobos, Jérôme Correas, Attilio Cremonesi, Alan Curtis, Ottavio Dantone, Thomas Dausgaard, Alessandro De Marchi, Marc Minkowski, Adam Fischer, Alan Gilbert, Emmanuelle Haim, Philippe Herreweghe, Christopher Hogwood, Manfred Honeck, René Jacobs, Ilia Korol, Nicholas Kraemer, Fabio Luisi, Andrew Manze, Andrea Marcon, Marc Minkowski, Christopher Moulds, Martin Nagashima Toft, John Nelson, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Erwin Ortner, Tadaaki Otaka, George Petrou, Josep Pons, Daniel Reuss, Christophe Rousset, Federico Maria Sardelli, Claude Schnitzler, Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Jan Willem de Vriend.

 

Engagements in the season 2009/10 included the title role in Cavalli’s Xerxes in Paris, Onoria in Handel’s Ezio in Paris, Vienna, Montpellier and Herne, Cecilio in Lucio Silla in Rennes, Bernstein’s Symphony No. 1 Jeremiah in Copenhagen, Haydn’s Missa Cellensis in Amsterdam, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnachtand in Madrid, Schubert’s Mass D678 in Heilbronn, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Sven-David Sandström's Messiah in Stockholm, and Handel’s Messiah in Bressanone (Italy).

 

Engagements in the 2010/11 season included Bradamante in Alcina at Staatsoper Wien as well as at Théatre de Champs Élysées in Paris, Bradamante in Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Opéra de Nice, Opéra National de Nancy, as well as in Budapest, Krakow and the  Barbican in London, Daniel in Belshazzar at Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Giulia in Handel’s Alessandro Severo in Crete, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde in Brussels, Vivaldi’s La Senna Festeggiante in Amsterdam and Treviso, Handel’s Messiah in Stockholm, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Stockholm, and Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Dixit Dominus in Aarhus.

 

The 2011/12 season has started with additional performances of Bradamante in Alcina at Staatsoper Wien, Bradamante in Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso at Theater an der Wien, Dvořák’s Requiem with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Storgé in Handel’s Jephtha in Vienna, Paris, Brussels, Caen and Moscow, and Handel’s Messiah in Odense as well as in Stavanger.

 

Kristina Hammarström has recorded the title role in Giulio Cesare and Giulia in Handel’s Alessandro Severo with George Petrou, Idamante in Idomeneo, Farnace in Mitridate, re di Ponto and Cecilio in Lucio Silla with Adam Fischer, Bach’s Christmas oratorio with Jan Willem de Vriend, Mozart’s Requiem with Manfred Honeck, and Handel’s Messiah with Gustaf Sjökvist. DVD releases include Bradamante in Alcina with Marc Minkowski, Bradamante in Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso with Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Daniel in Belshazzar with René Jacobs.
