 MARIANNE BEATE KIELLAND

GRAMMY Nomination

The mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kielland has been nominated for a GRAMMY Award alongside some of the operatic scene’s biggest stars: Joyce DiDonato, Natalie Dessay, Andreas Scholl and Ian Bostridge.

Ms. Kielland is nominated in the category “Best Classical Vocal Solo” for the recording of Edvard Grieg/Olav Anton Thommessen: Veslemøy Synsk with the pianist Nils Anders Mortensen.

“It is a huge honour being nominated for such a prestigious award, not least considering the eminent fellow nominees; I am thrilled!” says Marianne Beate Kielland.

Marianne Beate Kielland has quickly made a name for herself as one of Scandinavia’s foremost and versatile singers. She is equally at home and equally skilled in opera, concert, oratorio and solo recital.

Forthcoming highlights include assignments with conductors such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, Fabio Bonnizoni, Alan Curtis, Thomas Dausgaard, Marc Minkowski, Christophe Rousset and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, in repertoire that spans music from the 17th Century to contemporary, including composers such as Bach, Pergolesi, Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Berlioz, Grieg, Elgar and Mahler.

The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

KEEP AN EYE ON:

MARIUS ROTH CHRISTENSEN

 TENOR

The tenor Marius Roth Christensen turned to classical music relatively late but has recently received enormous attention in his native Norway. After recent operatic debut at the Norwegian National Opera as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte as well as a number of other opera, concert, television and radio appearances he has quickly become one of the most sought after singers in Norway. In the summer of 2011 he will sing Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Beppe in I Pagliacci at Oscarsborg Opera Festival as well as concerts with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the conductor Mario Venzano.

Listen to Marius sing Che gelida manina from Puccini’s La bohème
