The Norwegian bass Magne Fremmerlid studied at the Rogaland Music conservatory in Stavanger and with Ingrid Bjoner in Oslo.

Since 1997 he is engaged at the Norwegian National Opera. He has sung more than 50 leading roles including King Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Hagen in Götterdämmerung, Fafner in Das Rheingold, Heinrich der Vogler and Heerrufer in Lohengrin, Daland in Der fliegende Holländer, Don Ferrando in Fidelio, Colline in La Bohème, Pistola in Falstaff, Ferrando in Il Trovatore, Geronte di Ravoir in Manon Lescaut, Sparafucile and Monterone in Rigoletto, Mathieu in Andrea Chenier, Ashby in La fanciulla del west, Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi, Ribbing in Un ballo in Maschera, Escamillo and Zuniga in Carmen, Talpa in Il Tabarro, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Sarastro and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte, Figaro and Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, Publio in La Clemenza di Tito, Lorenzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Vodník, Water goblin in Rusalka, Capellio in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Collatinus in The rape of Lucretia, Surin in Queen of Spades, Crespel and Luther in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Geolier in Les Dialouges des Carmélites, Bailiff in Werther, and Stuart in the world premiere of Gisle Kverndokk’s opera Around the World in 80 days.

Other recent opera engagements have included Gurnemanz in Parsifal at the Theater Essen, Tierbändiger/Athlet/Theaterdirektor in Lulu at the Royal Danish Opera, Nurnemi in the world premier of Trygve Madsen’s opera Circus Terra at the State Opera in Prague, Ferrando in Il Trovatore and Talbot in Maria Stuarda at the opera in Kristiansund, Calchas in La belle Helene in Sandnes, Zaccarias in Nabucco at the Ringsaker Opera, Escamillo in Carmen with Opera South (Norway) and Zaccaria in Nabucco with Opera Østfold (Norway).

Magne Fremmerlid is one of Scandinavia’s leading concert singers. His vast repertoire includes Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Missa Solemnis, Dvorak’s Mass in D and Stabat Mater, Mendelsohn’s Elijah, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Bach’s Mass in b minor, Magnificat, St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, Mass in G, Wachet Auf and Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Mass in c minor and Requiem, Handel’s Messiah (more than 90 times), Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Harmonienmesse, Paukenmesse and The Seasons, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Faure’s Requiem and Duruflè’s Requiem.

Recent engagements include Savël Prokofjevic Dikój in Káťa Kabanová, Daland in Der fliegende Holländer, Boris Izmailov in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Sprecher / 2. Priester / 2. Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte, Bonze in Madama Butterfly; all at the Norwegian National Opera. Lodovico in Otello with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte with Opera Østfold, as well as concerts of Verdi’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel and Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death.

Upcoming engagements include Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Offergoden in Irgens-Jensen’s Heimferd with the Norwegian National Opera

Siden 1997 har Magne Fremmerlid vært fast tilknyttet solistensemblet ved Nasjonaloperaen. På hans mangfoldige repertoar står roller som Figaro og Bartolo i Figaros bryllup, Scarpia i Tosca, Sarastro i Tryllefløyten, Colline i La bohème, Kommandanten i Don Giovanni, Fafner i Rhingullet, Hagen i Götterdämmerung, Vannånden i Rusalka, Kong Marke i Tristan og Isolde, Hermann i Tannhäuser, Stuart i Jorden rundt på 80 dager og Tempo/Nettuno i Ulysses vender hjem.

Som en av Norges ledende sangere synger han regelmessig med ledende norske, skandinaviske og internasjonale symfoniorkestrene og han har medvirket ved en rekke festivaler i Norge og Europa.
