The Swedish tenor Niklas Engquist studied singing as well as French horn at the Malmö Academy of Music.

A long-time choir singer, Niklas Engquist recently launched a solo career and he has quickly become one of Scandinavia’s most sought-after tenors for concerts. He has a vast repertoire including masses, oratorios and song cycles by Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Britten, Buxtehude, Dvorak, Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Monteverdi, Mozart, Rossini and Schubert.

He regularly appears with leading Scandinavian orchestras such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Århus Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Copenhagen and Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in New York. Many of Niklas’ concerts have been broadcasted on Swedish as well as on Danish radio and he has appeared in several broadcasts on Swedish television.

He hascollaborated with conductors such as Giordano Bellincampi, Olof Boman, Gregor Bühl, Thomas Dausgaard, Steven Devine, Vincent de Kort, Peter Dijkstra, Rubén Dubrovsky, Marcus Edgar, Gary Graden, Daniel Harding, Tõnu Kaljuste, Louis Langrée, Stephen Layton, Fredrik Malmberg, Stefan Parkman, Andrew Parrott, Raphaël Pichon, Tobias Ringborg, Morten Schuldt-Jensen, Marc Soustrot and Robin Ticciati.

Engagements in 2017 included Gastone in LA TRAVIATA with Opera South, Mozart’s Requiem in Nyköping, Bach’s CHRISTMAS ORATORIO in Stockholm, Falköping and Enköping, Handel’s MESSIAH in Copenhagen with Leipziger Kammerorchester, Bach’s CHRISTMAS ORATORIO and ASCENSION ORATORIO in Moss, Halden, Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, Bach’s CHRISTMAS ORATORIO in Stockholm, Bach’s ST MATTHEW PASSION in Stockholm with Drottningholm Barque Ensemble, Haydn’s Nelson Mass with Västerås Sinfonietta and Bach’s MAGNIFICAT with Malmö Symphony Orchestra.

Most recent engagements have included Pastore and Apollo in Monteverdi L’ORFEO in Lund, cantatas by Bach in Rheinsberg and Wittstock, Bach’s ACTUS TRAGICUS in Stockholm, Bach’s ST MATTHEW PASSION in Stockholm and Bromma, Bach’s MASS IN B MINOR in Stockholm, Mozart’s CORONATION MASS in Enköping, Mendelssohn’s CHORAL CANTATAS in Stockholm, Haydn’s NELSON MASS in Stockholm, Pärt’s ST JOHN PASSION in Stockholm, Puccini’s MESSA DI GLORIA in Stockholm and Säffle, and a recital in Neuruppin (Germany).

Niklas Engquist er utdannet ved Musikhögskolan i Malmö og har etablert seg som en meget ettertraktet tenor i konsertsaler og ved festivaler i Skandinavia og Europa.

I 2017 har Niklas blant annet sunget Bachs Matteuspasjon i Stockholm og Århus, Bachs Magnificat i Malmö, Händels Messias i København og Stockholm, Mozarts Requiem i Nyköping, Bachs Juleoratorium  og Himmelfartsoratorium med Det Norske Blåseensemble og Gastone i Verdis La Traviata med Opera Kilden i Kristiansand.

Av fremtidige engasjementer kan nevnes Bachs Actus Tragicus i Stockholm, Mozarts Kroningsmesse i Enköping og Pastore / Apollo in Monteverdis L’Orfeo i Lund.
